The Rwanda Genocide, The Beslan School Massacre, The Sierra Leone Child Soldiers, The Cambodia Killing Fields, The Indian Ocean Tsunami, The Columbia Armero Volcano Eruption, The Bangladesh Bhola Cyclone, …

Devastating disasters, man-made or caused by nature. Shocking events, leaving the world with collective mental injuries, sensed by each of us. But these are only superficial scratches in comparison with the deep psychic traumas suffered by the survivors, the men and women and children directly involved.

The affected persons can decisively be helped with specific psychotherapeutic methods, mainly non-verbal and thus worldwide applicable. Yet, the knowledge and know-how about these therapies is lacking in the third world. There are local aid workers willing and ready, but they need teaching materials and training on the spot. For this purpose the Hijman Degen Foundation has been initiated.
